Minister appoints Dr. Tom Collins as Chairperson of the Governing Body of Institute of Technology, Tallaght
Minister for Education and Skills, Mr. Richard Bruton, T.D. has appointed Dr. Tom Collins as Chairperson of the Governing Body of the Institute of Technology, Tallaght with effect from 30 November 2016.
Dr. Collins is currently Chair of the Governing Bodies of both Dublin Institute of Technology and also of IT Blanchardstown. Institute of Technology, Tallaght is engaged in a project with Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown and Dublin Institute of Technology in relation to the development of a Technological University for Dublin (TU4Dublin). Accordingly, Dr. Collins is in a unique position to progress this project given that he will now occupy the same role in each of the three Institutes involved in this merger process. Progression of this project may necessitate a revised Governing Body structure for the new entity which would replace the governing bodies in IT Tallaght, IT Blanchardstown and DIT. The composition of the Governing Body will be detailed in the legislation underpinning the establishment of Technological Universities.
Accordingly, Dr. Collins appointment as Chair of Institute of Technology, Tallaght is effective from 30 November 2016 and will run until such time as a revised Governing Body structure is put in place for TU4Dublin, or for a five-year term, whichever shall occur the earlier.
Minister Bruton wished Dr. Collins well in his new and important role.
